Retrospective Area Bitcoin 2022

This year was crazy.

The bears invaded the market and took over, bringing fraud and scams with them. But voilà, it wasn’t that bad either for those who were already waiting for a turn of the cycle.

And for those who were too confident, it served to show that the film can indeed be repeated.

Now it’s time to move on with diamond hands for the next year, which should be full of mishaps.

Meanwhile, Area Bitcoin is moving towards its 4th year of life. Despite the young age, it is very good to taste the maturity of being Bitcoin only!

In 2022 we became a sovereignty accelerator and launched our own educational platform with courses from basic to advanced for those who want to learn about all aspects of Bitcoin:

It was a project that took more than six months to complete, and we are proud to be the first bitcoin only educational platform in the world to receive Bitcoin and lightning with integrated payment.

Our goal, in addition to encouraging adoption, was also to inspire other entrepreneurs and content creators to do the same, and it’s great to see this movement happening.

With the support of Bitrefill, Livecoins, and Ledger, this year, we had the opportunity to cover the biggest Bitcoin conference in the world on our networks:

It was a year in which we started our global expansion, taking the message of Brazilian sovereigns to other continents and receiving students from across the ocean, like Portugal, Italy, Belgium, and Angola!

Area Bitcoin published more than 70 free videos about Bitcoin on the youtube channel, and we had more than 2 million views.

Into a good flow, we got inspired and called Cervejaria Dogma to flow together in a collab and thus produced the first Bitcoiner beer in Brazil, Opt Out.

Before the year ended (and since there was still time to invent new things), we opened the Area Bitcoin Store, with t-shirts and Bitcoiners products for you to parade your sovereignty around.

Unfortunately, the e-commerce site where we hosted the t-shirts does not accept Bitcoin (yet…), but we are more than happy to accept any on-chain and lightning payment via P2P. As always, Bitcoiners find a way!

As soon as we integrate the store into our own platform, this automation should facilitate Bitcoin payments.

In Bitcoin, despite the bear, things are boiling!

1. This was the first bear in which, despite the price drop, adoption continued to grow.

Lugano, Madeira, Próspera, and the Central African Republic announced that they would adopt Bitcoin as their currency. Companies and banks started offering Bitcoin and other currencies to their customers, but it’s good… few of them released it.

2. The lightning network has grown enormously.

Network liquidity capacity increased from 1,058 BTC to over 4,771 BTC in 2022. The number of channels increased by +80%, from 37,298 to 67,339 channels. And the number of visible nodes increased by +88%, from 8,295 to 15,636.

3. Several projects using Bitcoin and lightning technology were announced, some started to run, and others grew.

For example, Taro, Fedmint, Impervious, RBG, Oshi, Alby, Thndr, Fountain, and many, many others. Expect much more of this next year!

Conclusion

It was a super year of growth and learning. And if all this happened in the low, imagine in the high.
